The lodge motto captures three core principles that guide Masonic conduct: Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. Brotherly Love emphasizes goodwill and fellowship among everyone, promoting kindness and respect within the fraternity and in the broader community. Relief refers to charity and assisting those in need, reflecting a duty to care for others. Truth stands for honesty, integrity, and fair dealing in all actions and words. Together, these three ideas form the familiar motto used in many lodges and Masonic teachings. The other wordings shift the emphasis slightly—using “Brotherhood” changes the common phrasing, and replacing “Truth” with “Justice” alters the ethical focus—so the version with “Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth” is the standard pairing.
