Which item is used to remind Freemasons to act upright and morally during instruction?

In Freemasonry, symbols in the lodge reinforce how a Mason should conduct themselves. The Square is the emblem that represents moral conduct—being square with one’s dealings, honest, and true in word and action. When it’s used during instruction, it serves as a constant reminder to measure every choice against that standard, to act with integrity, to avoid deceit, and to treat others fairly. The other tools point to related ideas—level emphasizes equality among brethren, the gavel governs order and the progress of the work, and the plumb rule highlights vertical uprightness—but the Square most directly embodies the call to upright, moral behavior in daily life and in the lodge.
