Initiation is a team effort. A group of officers, known as the initiating officers, guide the candidate through the steps, signs, and words of the initiation. They carry out the ritual actions under the direction and supervision of the Worshipful Master, who presides over the ceremony and keeps things orderly. The Master sets the tone and provides overall direction, but the actual guidance of the candidate during the ritual comes from the initiating officers working together. The Secretary handles administrative duties and does not lead the initiation.
